Kickstarter Campaign: For the Love of the Land Painting Project 2014

kickstarter-vector-logo.png

My Kickstarter campaign is running from November 30 - December 30, 2014. I am working to raise $3,500 that will go towards replenishing art supplies and will buy me time to work in my studio full-time for a few months over the winter. I plan to create some large scale landscape paintings.

All the people who back my Kickstarter campaign will receive rewards ... from art cards to small 4" x 4" paintings. There are some larger artwork rewards too (all the way up to 24" x 24").

Themed Group Show
water ~ noun: a transparent, odorless, tasteless liquid, a compound of hydrogen and oxygen, H2O.
From the earliest times water has been an eternal motif in art. Water is one of the basic elements of the universe and possesses life-giving power. It was due to this element that all life on Earth emerged. Artists often employ themes connected with water to reflect a state of mind, a mood. The surface of water can depict calm and underwater a dream world beneath the waves. All of the artists in this show bring a different perspective to this magical substance. What does water mean to you?

Featuring the artists:

Barbara Babinski Brian Tremblay Cynthia O'Brien Denis Larouche Gordon Wallace Ingo Hessel Janet Moore Jennifer Noxon Jesse Stewart Norman Takeuchi Victoria Wonnacott

Events During “Water”

Help us celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd, at Cube Gallery.
Join us for an evening of art and discussion with Ottawa Riverkeeper, Meredith Brown. Meredith will give a brief presentation on the significance of our Ottawa River, current issues affecting its health and future, and what you can do to help. Networking and cocktails to follow. Doors open at 7pm.
Ottawa Riverkeeper is a citizen-based action group that brings people together to protect and promote the ecological health and diversity of the Ottawa River and its tributaries. Expert and independent, our organization advocates for responsible decision-making, public education, participation, access to information, and compliance with protective regulations, for the benefit of our river and our communities.

Waterphone Concert on May 17

To mark the closing of the Cube gallery’s Water show, percussionist and visual artist Jesse Stewart will be performing a solo “waterphone” concert on Sunday May 17 at 3 pm. Stewart is one of the few waterphone soloists in the world. Invented in the 1960s, the waterphone has been used widely to provide sound effects for movie soundtracks. Rather than treat the instrument as a sound effect, however, Stewart has developed a variety of extended playing techniques that push the waterphone into new sound worlds. This has prompted Richard Waters, the instrument’s inventor to declare: “Jesse Stewart is rapidly becoming a music wizard on the MegaBass Waterphone by coaxing new sounds from the instrument. I consider Jesse to be a very creative and inventive forerunner of others who will follow. He is in short, a Master Waterphone Player.” Tickets will be available at the door for $10. The concert is free for young people 14 and under.

Homage June 4 - June 29, 2008

cube gallery.jpg

"Homage" is a group show that asks 60 artist to create an homage to an important influence on their art. Homage: "Something done or given in acknowledgment or consideration of the worth of another”. This show gives artists “permission” to "rip off" another artist's style in the form of an honour or critique of them. The name of the artist that is being "forged" will be hidden on each label so that patrons will be able to guess who is being acknowledged in each piece. It should be fun.
