Fire & Smoke

Last year a fire ripped through a portion of my community. The consequences were devastating: thousands of acres were burned and charred. At the time I owned a home in the area where the wildfire raged. Everyone in the zone was evacuated for three weeks until the fire was under control. We all watched from the other side of the harbour while plumes of smoke filled the sky; we saw when flames lit the night air as the fire made it’s way right down to the coastal area across from where we waited. I was lucky, my house still stood when it was over but 60 neighbours were not able to share in the relief I felt.

This month Studio 135 in Shelburne, NS hosts an exhibition, Fire & Smoke: Watching the Shelburne County Wildfires, May 27th - June 17th.
