In this work, the land is a metaphor for interior psychic space. It is both magnificent, ever-present, and in this painting a backdrop for a broken canoe that is symbolic of the memories of dramatic breaks in life. For me, a place exists not only visually and in terms of touch, but also in a realm that defies words and pictures.

My desire is to convey more than just a visual record of these regions where I have walked and explored. I want to relate my feeling and sense of place, the feeling of being out there on the land.

Memory Vessel was sold to the City of Whitehorse in 2005 and is on display in the Sportsplex (site of the 2007 Canada Winter Games).
